Canada Winter 2016 - 2017
Roger's Swimming Pond
When I last visited the Canadian family in the summer of ’05, a swim in the ‘pond’ was a big plus. The water was a little fresh but the frogs were good company. Situated at the back of the farm, it’s fed from a small stream running off the Niagara Escarpment.
Today it was a few degrees below freezing and we were snow shoeing. I warned the boys to be careful as they eagerly head off into the woods. Without the diving platform, the pond would be invisible, buried under a foot of fresh snow.

I don’t normally do Landscape. It requires planning, tripods and early mornings. When you’re a visitor on a family walk with five boys, you have to take what opportunities you can find. I saw a small path, running through a development plot on the outskirts of Meaford, leading to the bayfront. The breakwaters were strewn with branches and roots of small trees and bushes, the rocks half coated in ice, all signs of recent storm. It was cold, damp inhospitable place, quite different from my last visit in the summer of ‘05 when we swam in the warm waters of Lake Huron.
